Now available in Grok

Ask your Tesla about any UK vehicle

Add the Driver Codes connector to Grok and say a number plate. Grok tells you the MOT and tax status, then opens the full MOT history on the car's screen, straight from DVLA and DVSA records.

Free · No Driver Codes account needed · Official DVLA and DVSA data

What you can ask

One registration is all Grok needs. Say it however you like.

MOT status and expiry

Whether the MOT is valid, the date it runs out, and how many days are left.

Full MOT history

Every DVSA test with its result, failures and advisories, quoted as the tester wrote them.

Mileage checks

The mileage recorded at each test, with any drops or long gaps called out.

Road tax status

Taxed, untaxed or SORN, and the date tax is next due.

Vehicle details

Make, model, colour, fuel type, engine size and year of manufacture.

On the car's screen

Grok reads out a short summary and opens the MOT page in the Tesla browser, with large text sized for the display.

Example prompts

Just ask out loud

Useful when you're viewing a used car, picking up a car you've been lent, or wondering about the car parked next to you.

  • “Hey Grok, check the MOT on LB22 HMK.”
  • “Show it on the screen.”
  • “Is CR19 AHO taxed?”
  • “Has the mileage on this car ever gone down?”
  • “Anything in the MOT history I should worry about before I buy it?”

How to set it up

Ready in under a minute

Grok connectors are added from your Grok account, not in the car. Do this once on your phone or computer.

01

Open Grok connectors

On your phone or computer, go to grok.com/connectors, or in the Grok app tap + then Connectors. Choose New Connector, then Custom.

02

Add the Driver Codes URL

Name it Driver Codes, paste https://driver.codes/mcp as the server URL and leave authentication off.

03

Ask your Tesla

Make sure the car is signed in to Grok with the same account, then say a number plate and your question.

Connector URL

https://driver.codes/mcp

Needs Tesla software 2026.26 or later with AMD Ryzen infotainment.

Questions

Is the Driver Codes connector for Grok free?
Yes. Adding the connector and checking vehicles is free. You don't need a Driver Codes account, only a Grok account.
Which Teslas does it work in?
Grok in a Tesla needs software 2026.26 or later and the AMD Ryzen infotainment computer. Connectors belong to your Grok account, so the car must be signed in to the same Grok account you added the connector to.
Does it work outside the car?
Yes. The connector is part of your Grok account, so the same lookups work in the Grok app and on grok.com.
Why didn't the MOT page open on the screen?
Grok is asked to open the page every time, but whether it does is up to Grok and the car's software. If it only reads the answer out, say "Show it on the screen".
Where does the vehicle data come from?
Tax status and vehicle details come from the DVLA. MOT status, test history, mileage and advisories come from the DVSA.
Grok gave me a valuation. Is that from Driver Codes?
No. Driver Codes doesn't supply valuation data. Grok estimates a trade and private sale range from public listings and guides, so treat it as a rough guide, not a formal valuation.
Can it tell me who owns a car, or whether it has outstanding finance?
No. The lookup never returns the registered keeper, insurance, outstanding finance, a stolen marker or a write-off category. Use a paid vehicle history check for finance, stolen and write-off status.
Why does a new car have no MOT history?
Cars in Great Britain usually need their first MOT at three years old, so newer vehicles won't have any MOT tests on record yet.

The same DVLA and DVSA lookups are available as a ChatGPT plugin, for when you're away from the car.
