- Yes. Adding the plugin and checking vehicles is free. You don't need a Driver Codes account.
- Where does the vehicle data come from?
- Tax status and vehicle details come from the DVLA. MOT status, test history, mileage and advisories come from the DVSA.
- Can it tell me who owns a car, or whether it has outstanding finance?
- No. The lookup never returns the registered keeper, insurance, outstanding finance, a stolen marker or a write-off category. Use a paid vehicle history check for finance, stolen and write-off status.
- Why does a new car have no MOT history?
- Cars in Great Britain usually need their first MOT at three years old, so newer vehicles won't have any MOT tests on record yet.
- Does a taxed status mean the car is insured?
- No. Road tax and insurance are separate. A taxed vehicle may not be insured.
- Will the plugin do more than vehicle checks?
- Yes. Vehicle and MOT checks are the first feature. We're adding more Driver Codes tools to ChatGPT over time.
