Find the cheapest fuel on your journey
From 2 February 2026 the UK Government's Fuel Finder scheme makes live petrol and diesel prices public. Here is how Driver Codes uses that official data to help you fill up smarter.

From 2 February 2026, the UK Government launched the Fuel Finder service — a nationwide open-data fuel price scheme designed to bring transparency to the forecourt and help motorists see where the cheapest petrol and diesel really is.
What is Fuel Finder?
Fuel Finder is a government-managed open data initiative that collects live retail fuel prices and forecourt information from stations across the UK. All petrol and diesel retailers are now required to report fuel prices within 30 minutes of any change, meaning prices supplied to apps and websites are far more accurate and up to date than ever before.
Through the service you can access:
- Current fuel prices by type (e.g. petrol, diesel)
- Forecourt details (address, operator, brand)
- Station amenities and opening hours
- Time-stamped updates showing exactly when prices changed
Drivers do not need to interact with the government service directly — the data is made available so third-party apps and tools can put it straight into your hands.
Fuel prices in Driver Codes
We have integrated this official Fuel Finder data directly into the Driver Codes app, so you can now find the cheapest fuel nearby or along your route without hopping between different tools or websites.
What this means for you in the app:
- Live fuel price comparison — see up-to-date petrol and diesel prices from stations near you
- Route-based fuel planning — check prices ahead of a journey and choose the best places to stop
- Fuel savings at a glance — spot cheaper stations and avoid expensive pumps
By combining your driving routes with near real-time fuel pricing, Driver Codes helps you plan smarter, more cost-effective journeys.
Why this matters
Fuel is one of the biggest running costs for drivers, especially professional drivers covering long distances. With Fuel Finder data flowing into Driver Codes:
- You can save money on every tank by spotting cheaper prices nearby
- You no longer have to rely on outdated crowdsourced data — the information comes from a trusted government-mandated source
- Planning fuel stops becomes an integrated part of your driving experience, right in the app
Government estimates suggest this new transparency could save the average household tens of pounds a year — and for frequent drivers, the savings could be even more significant.
