Managing your licence

Where do I send my old licence?

Replacing or surrendering your UK driving licence? Here is the DVLA return address, when to keep your old licence intact, and how to track your replacement's progress.

Returning an old UK driving licence to the DVLA by post

You can cut your old licence in two and return it in an envelope to:

DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1BN

If you are awaiting a replacement, we recommend keeping your old licence intact until the new one arrives.

Track your replacement's progress

You can use the Driver Codes app to keep an eye on your replacement or renewal progress, as the DVLA will typically update their driver database before the licence card is dispatched.

Simply look for the licence issue number and issue date on the main licence view of the app. When these update, your new card is usually on its way. If you are replacing your licence because of a change of address, see our guide on how to change your address.
